Snow Trousers & Ski Trousers
Ski Trousers Keep You Cosy and Dry
Ski trousers are a crucial component of ski wear and should not be neglected when purchasing new ski clothing. Since your legs do most of the work whilst skiing, ensuring they are comfortable will maximise your enjoyment on the slopes. Ski trousers typically fall into three categories: insulated, hard shell, or softshell.
How to Choose the Right Ski Trousers
Insulated ski trousers are the most prevalent variety and are available in an extensive array of designs. The insulation provides added warmth and extra defence against the wind. These typically feature an outer shell offering waterproofing.
Shell ski trousers focus on waterproofing and wind resistance. These snow trousers lack insulation, making them ideal for skiers who do not require extra warmth or prefer to wear base layer trousers for additional heat. They are also favoured for backcountry skiing owing to their lightweight and breathable nature.
Softshell ski trousers offer the best breathability. Naturally, the fabric is soft and stretchy, providing great comfort. These non-insulated ski trousers are crafted from softer materials, thus reducing the level of waterproofing and warmth.
Common features you will find in all types of ski trousers include adjustable waistbands with belt loops, snow gaiters to prevent snow from entering your boots, and leg ventilation zips for releasing heat when needed. There are also snow bibs or ski bibs with adjustable shoulder suspenders. These are excellent if additional pockets are needed and they are incredibly comfortable to wear.
